Untitled
Dimensions unrecorded, 1992
Frederick Sommer started making collages when he was 84 years old and finished his last collage in September 1998; the same month he turned 93. He was a remarkably healthy man at the end of his life. During these years he had a small heart attack that damaged tissue at the base of the heart, the only area that does not affect function. He also had some gallstones crushed in an outpatient procedure in Phoenix. Very late in his life, he went to his personal physician in Prescott to discuss some minor complaints and was given a prescription to, "wiggle three times daily."
